The chief of the Buffalo River Dene Nation has been charged with assault after an incident earlier this week.

On Monday, Dillon RCMP received a report of a 29-year-old man being assaulted at a home on the reserve.

Forty-one-year-old Lance Byhette was arrested at his home on Monday and charges were laid today.

Police say the charges include assault and being intoxicated on the reserve.

Byhette is due to appear in Buffalo River court on May 7.
