The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is whittling down the number of communities considered to host a nuclear waste storage site.

On Thursday, two communities in Ontario were notified they didn’t meet the proper geological requirements to host a repository.

This leaves 14 other communities in Canada under consideration.

All of the communities are in Ontario with the exception of Creighton.

The northern Saskatchewan community recently passed the midway mark of step three in the consideration process.

An official with the NWMO says it will take at least a few years before the next stage begins.

Creighton town officials have stressed in the past the NWMO process does not mean the community has made a final decision either way.

Officials say they are simply exploring the idea.
