Some Saskatoon high school students are using Christmas cards to share their growing knowledge of Cree culture and language.

A class at Mount Royal Collegiate has painted and designed Christmas cards, and each card contains a Cree story that the students have learned.

Their teacher, Belinda Daniels, says to take their project one step further, she and the students decided to mail the cards to people who are incarcerated:

“Perhaps Kilburn Hall, where we can culturally revitalize our stories as Indigenous peoples.  Because they’re origin stories, they’re creation stories.  They tell about how the world first began for us as Nehiyaw people.”

The class was inspired to do a project to create change after attending We Day earlier this year.
