People driving through La Ronge will notice a change in the speed limit along a stretch of Highway 2 and 102.

New signs have been put up indicating a reduction from 80 km/h to 60 km/h.

Saskatchewan Highways spokesperson Mark Rathwell says the reduction followed a request from local officials:

“It’s a request we get from municipalities from time to time.  We conducted a speed study, and the study told us that reducing the speed limit made sense and was safer for motorists and pedestrians.”

Rathwell says once the speed limit has been in effect for a while, ministry officials will assess the situation to see how well it is working.
