The 18 Wheels of Christmas rolled into the Saskatoon Food Bank on Thursday.

The Rosenau Transport semi was on hand to drop off food and money just in time for the holiday season.

Saskatoon Food Bank Executive Director Laurie O’Connor says it was a good day for the local organization.

“This year, double from what they dropped off last year, it was 30,000 pounds of food and they collected around $12,000 for us as well,” she says.

O’Connor adds donations of these kinds are also welcome around Christmas.

“We’re just overwhelmed each day with the support of our community here in Saskatoon. Definitely our shelves are getting stocked and we’re excited to see the support from everyone in our community for those who might be struggling this Christmas season.”

The 18 Wheels of Christmas, which makes stops at food banks all over Western Canada, was started in 2002.

This is the fifth year it has come to Saskatoon.
