Officials with the Saskatoon Health Region First Nations and Métis Health Service say they are pleased with a recent visit to the north.

On Monday, they met with representatives from La Ronge and on Tuesday another visit was made to Stony Rapids.

Health service spokesperson Gabe Lafond says the goal was to let northern health workers know what services are available to patients who are sent to Saskatoon, including language services.

“Our staff who speak the language can share with them from the language perspective, for example in Dene that this is actually going to be happening to them, so that they feel a bit more safe and comfortable with the language that they understand,” he says.

Lafond says representatives from the Saskatoon Health Region also plan to visit Prince Albert and northwest Saskatchewan communities next month.
