A man from the Montreal Lake Cree Nation has been granted statutory release, seven years after he kidnapped an 11 year-old girl from Shellbook.
Linden David Jessie Bird will be required to live at an approved location, refrain from alcohol and immediately report any relationships.
He was arrested in 2006 after he ingested pills and alcohol, grabbed the girl from a home, choked her until she was unconscious, bit her and pushed her out of a vehicle in January.
The girl suffered severe injuries.
In its decision the parole board says Bird requires very structured supervision to succeed in the community.
