The Metis Nation got a commitment from the provinces yesterday to work towards a National Metis Economic Development Strategy.

MNC president Clem Chartier says the premiers of Ontario westward, except for Alberta, all pledged to have their ministers work with Ottawa on the issue.

Chartier says the strategy will encourage things like job creation and new businesses:

“The ability to pursue entrepreneurship contracts and partnerships in the private sector in the energy and resource sectors.”

Chartier says he was encouraged by the tone of the discussions though and felt they were quite positive.

He also applauds the premiers’ support for an inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women.
