It is graduation day tomorrow for 27 aboriginal men and woman who are taking part in this year’s pre-cadet program at the RCMP depot division in Regina.

After three weeks of intensive classroom training, the cadets head to RCMP detachments across the country where they will spend eight weeks working with regular members.

The hope is that many of them will want to sign on with the Mounties and become full time members.

Since 1996, 443 candidates have graduated from the pre-cadet program and more than half went on to apply to the RCMP.

44 of them are now Mounties, while 20 others are working civilian jobs with the RCMP.

This year’s roster of candidates come from as far away as Prince Edward Island and Nunuvut and everywhere in between.
