A spokesman with the provincial government says they’re willing to listen to concerns from a Northern First Nation regarding a new provincial park.

This week the Lac La Ronge Indian Band said it wasn’t happy with the level of consultation it was getting from the provincial government over the Blue Heron Park by Anglin Lake.

The chief says some members are concerned about access to traditional areas for things like hunting while others are wondering about access to ceremonial sites.

Bob McEachern is the director of parks for Saskatchewan.

He says a dialogue is underway:

“Provincial parks throughout the province are open to First Nations to practice their traditional uses and treaty rights so they do have access to all parks in that regard.”

He adds fishing, hunting and trapping will also be allowed inside the park, as long as they follow certain safety rules and guidelines.
