An apartment building in Prince Albert has been renovated into an affordable-housing unit.

The 17-unit building is located in the 300 block of River Street west.

Nearly $500,000 was spent fixing up bathrooms, putting in new kitchen cabinets, painting and replacing the boiler and electrical system.

A video-surveillance system was also installed to make the building safer for tenants.

Linda Boyer is the manger of the Prince Albert Community Housing Society.

She says rent for tenants will be much cheaper than that of regular apartment buildings:

She says it will range from $500 to $800 a month.

“There is a need for lower-priced rentals out there for single people.”

The funding comes out of this year’s installment of the Canada/Saskatchewan Investment in Affordable housing.
