It was a night of fun and celebration for some youth in Prince Albert last night.
SIAST held an Aboriginal Honoring Ceremony for its students.
An elder was brought in along with a drummer and singer to perform the ceremony.
Tina Moostoos hails from the James Smith Cree Nation and is studying to be a chef.
She says for many students, it’s the only time they get to go out for a buffet dinner:
“Yeah it’s a great outing for most of us. Being a student you don’t have a lot of money to go out for a nice supper and that.”
Patrick Ballantyne is a Pelican Narrows resident who is finishing his grade 12.
He says the event is a great chance to share some fellowship and think about next year:
“I think it’s a great way to honor students you know. What we’re doing is honoring every student whether they graduate or not, whether they finish the year out.”
It was the 14th year for the ceremony which was held at Parkland Hall.
