Representatives of the First Nations University of Canada traveled to eastern Canada this week to present the Elder Ken Goodwill Memorial Award.

This year, eight students from Ontario’s New Credit First Nation finished first in the Wiseman Mathematics Contest.

FNUniv director of communications Racelle Kooy says the contest was started in 2008 to improve math skills.

The contest is open to Grades 4 and 5 students from First Nations schools across the country.

Individual high score prizes are handed out, along with one national award to the school with the highest overall score.

Drake Cameron and Shanese Thomas of the Witchekan Lake First Nation, and Regan Thomas of the Pelican Lake First Nation, received the high scores in Saskatchewan this year.
