There will be a new man in charge of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation after the band’s coming chief and council election.
The band’s chief electoral officer, Randy Clarke, says incumbent chief Darrelll “Boots” McCallum declined to seek re-election after his name was put forward at a nomination meeting in Pelican Narrows last night.
McCallum has been the chief of PBCN for the last six years.
Two candidates that have let their name stand in the race for chief are former chief Harold Linklater of Pelican Narrows and longtime band councillor Peter A. Beatty of Deschambault Lake.
The election will be held on April 17.
