A village councillor in Cumberland House says he’s not surprised a local highway has earned the distinction of being the worst road in the province.

Last week, Highway 123 was named the worst road in Saskatchewan by CAA.

Gary Carriere says floods in 2005 and 2011 have taken their toll on the gravel road.

He says even highway equipment gets stuck in it from time to time:

“In 2011, both our graders were stuck on the middle of 123 so they had to send for a cat in Carrot River to come and pull them out.”

Carriere says road crews have done quite a bit of work on the road in recent years, but it is still a concern.

He adds everyone is hoping Highway 123 will eventually get paved.
