Questions have been raised recently (in a CBC report) about people on-reserve being charged taxes which don’t apply to them.
SaskTel spokesperson Tara Tibeau says to be exempt from PST and GST, you must be a status Indian located on a reserve.
She adds lots of individuals live on reserves that don’t have the qualification which comes from the Canada Revenue Agency.
“We’re more than happy to review and to go back in to correct accounts, so we really encourage people to check their bills and give us a call.”
Tibeau says decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, but the first step is to get more information by contacting SaskTel.
