The province’s Ministry of Environment has signed an agreement to have 2.3 million tree seedlings grown and stored at a nursery north of Prince Albert.

The young trees will be planted next year in areas not covered by current licence agreements with forest companies.

Forest Services spokesperson David Stevenson says to decide where the seedlings will be needed, aerial surveys will be done:

“We will be surveying in the upcoming year the area around Creighton, the area around La Ronge and in the Prince Albert and Meadow Lake areas.  These tend to be done by remote photography using a plane.”

Stevenson says most of this year’s planting under the province’s forest renewal program will be done in the Island Forest area near Prince Albert.
