A good snow pack across the province’s north this year has officials with Saskatchewan Environment preparing for an average forest fire season.

Curtis Lee is the Director of Wildfire Management Operations, based in Prince Albert.

Lee says arrangements are once again being made for the province’s fleet of firefighting aircraft, adding most of the contracts will be starting in early-to-mid-May.

He says pilots and aircraft maintenance crews are also preparing, and people across the north will start to see air tanker activity in the next few weeks.

Lee says fitness testing for firefighters started last weekend, and more training sessions are planned for Prince Albert and Beauval.
