A two-day education forum kicked off in Regina this morning.

Representatives from college, university, trade school and the adult basic education sectors are in attendance.

The forum is being put on by the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and vice-chief Simon Bird says the organization wants a better understanding of how First Nations youth can tap into the growing economy.

“Sometimes, it’s easy to say that we got issues and we got problems but if we don’t work on solutions we do a disservice to those who are going to be coming behind us,” he says.

Panelists will also discuss the present needs and wants of industry in attracting a qualified work force.

The forum is being held at the First Nations University of Canada campus in Regina.

Former NHL hockey coach Ted Nolan is the keynote speaker at the event.
