Police and paramedics say an unconscious man was severely hypothermic and near death when found outside in Prince Albert over the weekend.

The discovery was made late Saturday morning on the city’s west side.

Police spokeswoman Rhonda Meakin says the 22 year-old is not homeless but was found near a business on 17th Street not wearing winter clothing.

Meakin says the man had frostbite and was near death when he was discovered and taken to hospital

It’s not clear how the man ended up outside and police are investigating – but they say alcohol may have been a factor.

This is the third incident in Prince Albert this winter where someone suffered severe health effects as a result of over exposure in frigid temperatures.

In early December, a 49-year-old homeless man died of hypothermia and on Jan. 19, a 55-year-old man was hospitalized after exposure to cold weather.
