About 90 participants took part in a First Nations and Métis archaeology conference in Saskatoon this past weekend.

Talina Cyr Kemp, one of the organizers, says the theme of this year’s conference was “working together to understand our past.”

The event brought together scholars, students and Aboriginal representatives to discuss ways in which traditional land use methods can be incorporated into archaeological and other land use projects to preserve the past.

Presentations included the archaeology of Blackfoot thought, integrating traditional land use and ecological methods into development projects and current archaeological practices and policy in the province of Saskatchewan.

The conference, which had not been held since 1991, took place on Friday and Saturday at Wanuskewin Heritage Park.
