A man will go to trial May 23 for allegedly threatening violence against employees of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band on Facebook.

Forty-year-old Fraser Daniel Cook, who’s himself a Lac La Ronge band member, has pleaded not guilty to a single count of uttering threats.

He was arrested on Dec. 17 but has since been released on bail with conditions.

RCMP Constable Matt Halstead refused to specify the exact nature of the threats but did say they were made against people who work at the band office in La Ronge.

“The threats were made against employees of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band office and were fairly general but were serious enough to cause concern amongst us, as well as the employees there,” Halstead says.

He added the RCMP has been in contact with officials at Facebook and the social media site has cooperated fully with the investigation.
