An organizer of the Idle No More movement says she’s disappointed by the results of Friday’s meeting between the Prime Minister and First Nations chiefs.

Sylvia McAdam says she was hoping to hear that Stephen Harper had decided to remove contentious legislation affecting First Nations rights over lands and water.

As a result of the federal government’s failure to remove key provisions of Bill C-45, she and other Idle No More organizers are planning to hold a worldwide call for action on Jan. 28

McAdam says other groups, including the Council of Canadians and some unions, will be joining them on this day.

Some chiefs have called for protesters to target the Canadian economy but McAdam says Idle No More organizers have not discussed this option.

“Well, the chiefs can make their plans but there has been no discussion about it with Idle No More. Our date is on Jan. 28 and we’ve always maintained we are a peaceful movement.”

McAdam says she probably wouldn’t have attended Friday’s meeting even if she had been invited.

She explains the agenda of the meeting was extremely limited and didn’t speak to the movement’s concerns.
