Governor General David Johnston has agreed to host a ceremonial meeting with First Nations leaders at Rideau Hall tomorrow.
The hope is this ceremonial meeting will satisfy native leaders, who wanted Johnston at their working meeting with the prime minister tomorrow.
Manitoba and Ontario chiefs have declared that they would only participate in the discussions with Stephen Harper if Johnston were also present.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Assembly of First Nations has laid out what he and other leaders will bring to the table when they meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other officials tomorrow in Ottawa. National Chief Shawn Atleo told a news conference the chiefs will resist any efforts to divide First Nations people.
He says the leaders will fight for the rights of their people.
Atleo says First Nations have won case after case in the Supreme Court of Canada and their message will not change.
