China was the big player in last week’s Ontario fur auction.
It was the Fur Harvesters Auction house’s most successful sale to date.
Mark Downey, the CEO of Fur Harvesters Incorporated, says good prices were recorded on all levels with Chinese buyers leading the way.
He adds there is a lot of disposable income in the Asian country right now and Downey expects prices to remain strong.
“It basically comes down to supply and demand. The demand right now in China is very strong and I cannot see the supply in Canada meeting Chinese demand for some time so I predict prices to be pretty strong.”
Beaver averaged $34 per pelt while Muskrat was almost $12 and Downey says these are the highest average prices ever recorded for muskrat.
The top price paid at the auction was for a grizzly bear pelt at $2,700 and the top price paid for a timber wolf pelt was $700.
