A northern MLA has decided to back Cam Broten’s bid for the leadership of the Saskatchewan NDP.

Doyle Vermette says he thinks Broten will unite New Democrats and win back voters who have decided to go with the Sask Party in the last two elections.

He points out Broten spent some of his early years living in La Loche, Green Lake, Meadow Lake and La Ronge.

Vermette says Broten’s experiences in northern Saskatchewan are important because they give him insight into some of the problems northerners are currently facing.

Broten is seeking the leadership of the Saskatchewan NDP against Trent Wotherspoon, Ryan Meili and Erin Weir.

The party will choose a new leader on Mar. 9.
