Saskatchewan’s high Aboriginal unemployment rate will be among the topics discussed at a federal and provincial finance ministers meeting in Quebec on Monday.

Saskatchewan’s economy continues to be strong but its Aboriginal unemployment numbers remain high with off-reserve First Nations people accounting for 20 per cent unemployment and Métis unemployment at 10 per cent.

Saskatchewan finance minister Ken Krawetz says while this province is leading the nation in economic growth, the key to maintaining this growth is through the provision of education, training and jobs for the growing Aboriginal community.

Krawetz adds the federal government has a role to play in terms of helping increase Aboriginal job numbers

Saskatchewan goes into the meeting as the only province in Canada projecting a balanced budget.
