Two northern First Nations chiefs have both been re-elected.

Canoe Lake Cree Nation Chief Robert Opikokew and Waterhen Lake Cree Nation Chief Carole Bernard both fought off challengers to win another term.

In Canoe Lake, Opikokew defeated former chief Guy Lariviere and Thomas Iron.

In Waterhen Lake, Bernard edged out Brenda Fiddler 300 votes to 262.

Councillors Leonard Opikokew, Eval Lariviere, Richard Opikokew and Gus Iron were also re-elected in Canoe Lake.

Francis Iron and Ralph Opikokew will serve their first terms as councillors on this First Nation.

In Waterhen Lake, Ableheza Ernest and Ernie Fiddler were re-elected again as councillors.

Richard Fiddler, Blaine Fiddler, Jo-Anne Roy and Martin LaRocque will serve their first terms on the Waterhen council.

In both First Nations, all terms are two years in length.
