Seven Saskatchewan communities are set to receive $482,000 dollars from the provincial government in an effort to boost literacy across the province.

Some of the groups receiving the money include the Cote First Nation, the First Nations University of Canada, Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation and Muskeg Lake.

Brett Waytuck is the chief librarian in the province.

He says the money will be used in a variety of ways to help seniors, students and other grassroots members:

“So it can be, for example, a sharing circle with an elder or it could be a more-formal work-place essential skills type of teaching.  But it’s really dependent on what the needs are.”

He says each community got about $70,000 each but the program is sun-setting after this installment.
