The former chief of the Moosomin First Nation is fighting to get his old job back.

Late last month, Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Canada removed Elliot Kahpeaysewat from office.

The federal department said an independent investigator had investigated allegations of vote-buying and determined there was sufficient evidence for that claim.

Kahpeaysewat disagrees.

In a statement, Kahpeaysewat claims the allegations are unfounded and politically-motivated.

He also says his lawyers have filed a judicial review challenging the ability of Aboriginal Affairs to remove him from office.

Kahpeaysewat adds he plans to run for chief again in the band election in January.
