Northern Saskatchewan MP Rob Clarke appears to have some company in his efforts to change the Indian Act.

A spokeswoman for Liberal Leader Bob Rae confirms he will introduce a motion Monday in the House of Commons to repeal the Act.

Clarke doesn’t feel the bill measures up against his own private member’s bill, which he is debating today:

“But then again, I’m looking and I see Bob Rae almost have an exact same motion coming before the House on Monday to repeal the Indian Act in two years’ time.  And his motion is non-binding — so all he wants to do is talk about it, but without any concrete steps.”

Clarke stresses his bill seeks to amend the Indian Act in several key areas — not to repeal it altogether.
