A prayer service will be held tonight in Saskatoon for the late president of the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies.

SIIT campuses around the province will be closed tomorrow for the funeral of Randell Morris.

Morris died unexpectedly on Tuesday at the age of 47.

He has been a fixture at the SIIT for more than 20 years, and was president for the last five years.

Saskatoon Tribal Council Chief Felix Thomas says the loss of Morris will be felt all over the province:

“Randell was involved in a lot of First Nation initiatives, a lot of Aboriginal initiatives and a lot of Saskatchewan initiatives.  He certainly was a real good public servant for all of us.  And it doesn’t matter if you’re First Nation or not, we lost a good citizen in Saskatchewan.”

Tonight’s prayer service will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the SIIT Saskatoon Campus.

Tomorrow’s funeral begins at 1:30 p.m. at Saskatoon’s Prairieland Park Hall B.
