A gathering was held this morning at Wanuskewin Heritage Park to mark a milestone regarding government settlements with First Nations.

The FSIN organized the event to observe the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty Land Entitlement Framework Agreement.

The deal was signed at the park on September 25th, 1992.

It provided 25 First Nations $445 million over 12 years to acquire up to two million acres of land in fulfillment of an outstanding land debt owed under treaties.

Another eight First Nations later signed Treaty Land Entitlement agreements, bringing the value of these claims to almost $600 million.
