A blending of First Nations healing and western medicine is on the wish list of an official with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

Last December, the federation put a proposal into the Ministry of Health for a cultural responsiveness framework.

The idea is to start improving the health care experience for First Nations people.

Wilson Sutherland is one of the people working on the initiative.

Sutherland says they want to show local health regions how cultural teachings can be used to better the overall experience for patients.

Ultimately, Sutherland says they would like to instill a cultural component within the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy.

The framework is expected to be complete in 18 months.
