The First Nations University of Canada wants to make university education more accessible to more students.

To do this, it is calling on sponsors and community leaders to play a round of golf.

The tournament could raise up to $250,000.

The money will be used for scholarships and bursaries for students.

The president of FNUniv, Doyle Anderson, says they have already lined up a number of celebrities, business leaders and special guests for the September 14th tournament.

Anderson says all the money raised will go back to students to help them get the education they need.

Cadmus Delorme has been going to the university for six years.  He is also one of Saskatchewan’s best amateur golfers.

Delorme says education has made a huge difference in his life, and scholarships have helped him along the way:

“I can’t stop learning.  This place just ingrained in my mind that you’re going to learn until the day that you die.”

Among those lending their name and celebrity to the event is former Roughrider great George Reed.

He has been called the greatest running back in CFL history — and Reed says he is proud to be part of the initiative:

“It will lend a helping hand to probably some people who got off to a rough start who are now trying to get back on the right track.”

The registration deadline for the tournament is Septembers 7th.

Golfers can win up to $95,000, but the big winners will be the students looking to complete their post-secondary education.
