The Anglican Church in Saskatchewan has elected Adam Halkett to serve as northern Saskatchewan’s new Indigenous bishop.

The election took place at Prince Albert’s Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre on Saturday.

Halkett’s duties will include ordaining new clergy, confirming young people and tackling other pressing issues.

Operating out of Montreal Lake, Halkett has most recently served as the church’s archdeacon of Saskatchewan.

His consecration will take place in mid-October.
