The federal government has set aside a quarter of a million dollars to pinpoint and highlight success stories of Aboriginal people operating in the cities.

The five-year project is being led by the National Association of Friendship Centres.

Bettina Schneider is an instructor at the First Nations University of Canada who will be helping out with the effort.

She says the project is titled the Urban Aboriginal Knowledge Network — and will examine the economic development, civic engagement and social success of things like urban reserves:

“(We’re) trying to examine and better understand the successful models and institutions that urban Aboriginal communities are creating.”

She adds Saskatchewan is generally looked upon as a leader in the development of urban strategies.
