The Onion Lake Cree Nation has placed a request with the SJHL for an expansion franchise.
According to the SJHL website, the league governors have tabled the request for review.
SJHL President Bill Chow says unlike the Cold Lake request earlier in the year, Onion Lake won’t meet resistance from the Alberta Junior Hockey League:
“So what we’ve done is we’ve tabled it — and the governors will then take the documents that were submitted, review everything, and then when we have our next meeting in October, we’ll discuss it and then we’ll see whether there’s merit or whether there’s not.”
The governors will also determine if the SJHL has any desire to expand at this time or in the near future.
