Metis Nation – Saskatchewan President Robert Doucette says he feels good about where things stand with the organization’s coming election.

On Saturday, Metis gathered in Prince Albert to set an election date of September 8th.

Doucette says there was some spirited debate at the session — but he stresses that is normal at these types of political events.

Many Metis have said they feel ballot boxes for the election must be placed in each specific Metis community so that everyone can have a chance to vote.

Doucette says decisions like that will be left up the chief electoral officer for the election — Meyers Norris Penny.

He also says he is optimistic that the government will come through with money for the election.

As well, Doucette confirms he and the rest of the executive have had their terms extended until later in the summer, when an oversight committee will take over.
