Some punishment has been given to a resident of Denare Beach who hacked into a New York-based website.

Ryan Devin Lee appeared in Creighton Provincial Court yesterday and was given a suspended sentence by the judge.

Lee was also put on probation for 20 months.

He pleaded guilty to charges that include committing mischief in relation to data.

Le was arrested on June 9th, 2010 after officers raided a home in Denare Beach and seized several computers.

The Mounties were acting on information obtained from their technological crime unit and the Canadian Consulate.

At the time, they alleged a commercial website was under attack from a computer in the home.

Part of Lee’s sentence stipulates that he is not allowed to engage in computer activities that involve testing website vulnerabilities, accessing malware or using devices that could mask his Internet traffic.

He also has to perform 150 hours of community service and pay a surcharge.
