The Town of La Ronge has completed a municipal census.

The work was carried out after the 2011 census reported that just 2304 people lived in La Ronge, a figure the mayor of the community disagrees with.

Thomas Sierzycki says according to the town’s numbers, 3053 people live in La Ronge.

The work was overseen by two returning officers with experience in federal and provincial elections.

Sierzycki says the documents they have compiled will now be sent to the federal government in the hopes of updating the official population of La Ronge:

“I’m very optimistic.  StatsCan has been great to work with.  They have indicated they are looking at our numbers.  At the end of the day, we as a community have done everything in our power to make sure everyone was counted — and it shows a true reflection of the nature of the community.”

Sierzycki says the municipal census had a return rate of over 87%.

He adds town councillors and administration staff donated their time towards the effort.
