The Red Earth and Shoal Lake Cree Nations will soon have paved roads into their communities.
Saskatchewan Highways says paving those access roads is on its to-do list this year.
Shoal Lake band councillor Rayme Whitecap has the roads portfolio.
Whitecap is excited about the news, and hopes it cuts down on accidents and dust in the area:
“We’ve been having accidents in that area with bumpy roads, and (the) driving condition is poor sometimes when it rains . . . and the dust, as well, it’s kind of affecting our health.”
Whitecap is also hopeful some band members will be able to get jobs on the paving crews.
