Hundreds of teachers from across North America are expected in Saskatoon over the next few days for the annual Awasis Education Conference.

The Saskatchewan Teachers Federation sponsors the event each year to share ideas on how to bring Aboriginal content into the classroom.

Some of the session topics cover the effects of TB, dealing with violence, the importance of ceremony and traditional games.

Awasis president Lisette Denis says the organization’s holistic approach is becoming popular with teachers across the country:

“We provide them ideas focused around the Medicine Wheel, in the four areas, to incorporate with their students in the classroom.”

Denis says attendance at the Awasis conference has increased in the last five years from 500 to over 1,000 participants.
