The provincial government is about to give commercial fishers a small financial break.

Saskatchewan Environment has decided to eliminate fish marketing royalties.

Spokesman Chris Dunn says with fishers free to market their fish anywhere they want as of April 1st, the province felt it would be too costly to continue administering the program:

“As we move to an open market, we’re going to have probably more buyers — and it will cost the province more money to actually collect the royalties.  So, we looked at it as a means to make our operations more cost-effective, as well.”

Dunn says, on average, it will amount to an annual savings of about 100 dollars per fisher.
