The Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation/Duck Lake entry into the Kraft Hockeyville contest is looking for support from other First Nations communities.

Supporters of the bid were elated to learn through live television this past weekend that they had made the final round.

It marks the first time a First Nations community has been named one of the five finalists in the history of the competition.

Kevin Seesequasis hopes First Nations people will help back the Beardy’s bid:

“We need as many First Nations and Aboriginal people across the province — and across the country — to vote for us.  You know, this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing . . . it won’t be available to us again for another long, long time.”

Seeseequasis also says voting efforts for the Beardy’s campaign have been severely hampered by a large power outage in the Saskatoon area today:

“You know, we’re losing quite literally thousands of votes a second, and that’s affecting our efforts in a very, very negative way — so we’re hoping that everybody else around the province can help pick up the slack.”

Voting closes at 10:00 tomorrow night.
