The Saskatoon Tribal Council has unveiled a new building aimed at making residents of other reserves feel a little more at home.

Victoria House features eight beds that can be rented out by First Nations people who have medical appointments in Saskatoon.

STC vice-chief Geraldine Arcand says the building is staffed by First Nations workers who try to make guests feel at ease — especially since they are coming to the city for treatments or test results that “are not always good”.

Arcand says there are workers at the house who speak Cree, Saulteaux and Dene.

She notes there is a charge to stay at the house, but adds it’s still cheaper than a hotel.

Arcand says the STC plans to put in more beds once it gets the necessary zoning permits.
