There is a slight change in the crop insurance formula this year for wild rice producers in northern Saskatchewan, particularly those in the north-central region.

They will be paying slightly more in premiums, while producers in the northeast and northwest will pay slightly less.

Sean Jaques of Saskatchewan Crop Insurance explains last year’s flooding had a lot to do with this.

Meantime, the insured price producers will receive for wild rice this year is going up to $0.75/lb. from $0.70/lb. last year.

Last year, the agency paid out $172,000 to wild rice producers in Saskatchewan.
