Canada is coming under fire for how it presented a report to the United Nations on human rights.

The U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Forms of Racial Discrimination has issued a report which says key issues concerning the rights of Indigenous people were overlooked or ignored in Canada’s report.

The committee had urged the federal government to consult with Aboriginal groups before it made its own report on the issue.

However, it says Canada’s latest report was submitted without the consultation or involvement of Indigenous peoples or human rights organizations.

The country is a signatory to the U.N. Convention on Human Rights and is recognized as a state that is required to report regularly on its progress.
