There are now two declared candidates in the race for the presidency of the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan.

Beauval resident Alex Maurice says he has decided to put his name forward — adding he has been asked since 2007 to let his name stand for president.

This is his third bid for the position, and he says it will be his last attempt.

Maurice says jobs and training are two of the main issues he sees facing Metis youth.

The only other candidate in the race so far is incumbent president Robert Doucette.

Doucette says he feels good about his five years in office.

He cites the paying down of a $2-million debt, and the building of new relationships with government partners as some of the accomplishments he’s most proud of.

The election takes place on May 30th.
