In roughly two weeks, the temporary homeless shelter in North Battleford will close, just as the cold weather has hit.
The problem is a lack of money, according to Battlefords Indian and Metis Friendship Centre Executive Director Jackie Kennedy.
A couple of months ago, they received money to run the shelter from the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs and the United Way.
The money runs out January 31st and there’s no new money.
Kennedy says she feels especially bad to have to close the shelter now that really cold weather has arrived.
Kennedy is hoping a last-minute saviour will come forward with funding.
